Blue Sea
CoffeeshopAbout
Blue Sea sits on Van Woustraat in De Pijp, a few minutes from the Albert Cuypmarkt and a tram ride from the center — the useful stop when you've had enough of the crowds downtown. The shop has been here a long time, but the version people come for now dates from a change of ownership and a full renovation: it's run by the man credited with a quarter-century of quality behind the counter at Bluebird, and the menu shows it.
The room is the pitch. A large aquarium sits at the center, framed by a living wall of tropical plants and floor-to-ceiling airbrushed murals — bubbles, dreamscapes, the Amsterdam skyline, with "B·SEA" worked into the artwork. Leather armchairs, warm wood, reggae and lounge on the speakers, no television. It's small by design and quiet by intention; regulars are local and the room stays calm.
The menu is broad for a neighborhood shop, with real depth in both flower and hash, and prices that reviewers repeatedly call cheap against current Amsterdam norms. Coffee and milkshakes are a genuine part of the offer. The edible to know about is the house "weedbar," a peanut butter and chocolate slab.
