Barraka
CoffeeshopAbout
Barraka opened in 1983 on the Gravenstraat, the narrow lane running behind the Nieuwe Kerk just off Dam Square, about five minutes' walk from Centraal. It's an independent — no chain behind it — and it trades on being a traditional shop rather than a modern one: Native American imagery and historic smoking motifs on the walls, and a room that functions as a blowerij, a smoking lounge, more than a counter.
It's small, over two floors, with seating upstairs, outdoor seats, Wi-Fi and a full drinks bar. The menu sticks to well-known standards rather than chasing new genetics, with hash and pre-rolls alongside.
Buy-to-stay applies, and it's enforced strictly — expect to be asked to purchase before you sit, and for everyone in your party to order if you want a table.
