Coffeeshops in Hoofddorp
Hoofddorp is the main town of Haarlemmermeer, the polder drained in 1852 that now holds Schiphol Airport. It's a modern commuter town of around 80,000 people — planned streets, a lake at Toolenburg, the Cruquius steam pumping station museum at the edge of the polder — and it has something the airport four kilometers north of it doesn't: coffeeshops.
That's the practical reason most people find this page. Hoofddorp is five minutes from Schiphol by train and about twenty from Amsterdam Centraal, which makes it the closest option to the airport and a sensible stop if you're staying at one of the airport hotels or have a long enough layover to leave the terminal. Haarlemmermeer doesn't apply the residency requirement, so visitors can buy on the same terms as anywhere in North Holland — 18 or over, valid ID, five grams a day.
The part that matters more than the shops: don't take anything back to the airport. Cannabis is not permitted in the terminal, Schiphol has customs and Marechaussee on site, and carrying it out of the country is a criminal offence at both ends of the flight. Whatever you buy in Hoofddorp stays in Hoofddorp.
