Super Skunk

Super Skunk sits on the Prinsengracht near the Leidsestraat crossing, in the stretch of the canal ring between Leidseplein and the Nine Streets. Canal-side, central, and quieter than the squares on either side of it.

The shop is small and comfortably furnished: order at the counter, then take a seat on the couches and cushioned lounge at the back. House glass, grinders and rolling gear are there to use. The music runs to an eclectic mix and gets mentioned in reviews as often as the menu does. Coffee is taken seriously here — the lattes and cappuccinos get repeat praise, including from non-smokers, which is rarer than it should be in this city.

The menu is broad and prices sit below the Centrum average, which for a canal address is unusual. Flavored strains are the house specialty — apple and strawberry varieties in particular come up again and again as the reason people return. Staff draw consistently warm notices, including for going well beyond the counter when a customer needed help.
