Coffeeshop BIJ
CoffeeshopAbout
Open since 2009, BIJ is part of the Boerejongens family — one of four, alongside Boerejongens West, Boerejongens Centrum and Coffeeshop Sloterdijk — and sits about a minute's walk from Boerejongens West in the residential De Baarsjes. Vondelpark, the Foodhallen and Rembrandtpark are all close.
The building is the reason to come even if you weren't planning to buy anything. The whole shop, inside and out, is built as a tribute to the Amsterdamse School — the early-twentieth-century Amsterdam architectural movement — and the owners treat that as the point rather than the decoration. Inside there's an old pharmacy chest, marble counters and gold detailing. The menu is tightly organised across flower, hash and pre-rolls, with staff who'll talk you through it if you're unsure. There's a doorman who checks ID on the way in; the legal minimum is 18, and anyone who looks younger will be asked.
