De Supermarkt

The name is literal: the shop opened in 2000 wedged between two supermarkets, and took the joke as its own. It sits in the Frederik Hendrikbuurt, a lively residential stretch of West near Westerpark, and it's one of five shops in The Coffeeshops group — the same family as Siberië, De Republiek, Loft and Espresso in Mijdrecht.

Two rooms on one level. The front is bright and full of daylight, unusual enough here that visitors mention it; walk further in and the second room darkens into something more traditional. The front doubles as a smoking lounge and a vapor lounge — the shop takes the vaping side seriously enough to run a monthly event where people can try different vaporizers — and rotating exhibitions of local artwork go up on the walls. A table and two chairs outside when the weather allows.

The menu is one of the broadest in the city, with genuine depth in both flower and hash, ice-o-lator included, all lab-tested in the group's own facility. Three cup wins across three categories. Orders are weighed in front of you. Prices sit well under the Centrum, and they'll sell less than a gram. The espresso is good.
