Coffeeshops in Oud-West

Oud-West is where a lot of visitors end up sleeping without meaning to. The hotels and apartments west of the canal ring are cheaper than anything in the center and fifteen minutes from it by tram, which makes this the neighborhood most people discover after they've booked rather than before.

It's a good place to land. The shops here are few and local — no queues, no street barkers, and a customer base that lives within four streets. If your day starts and ends in Oud-West, there's no reason to carry your buying into the center, where the same product costs more and comes with a crowd.

The anchor is De Hallen, a former tram depot on the Bellamyplein side now holding a food hall, a cinema and a library — the best wet-afternoon plan in west Amsterdam. Kinkerstraat runs through the middle of the district with the Ten Katemarkt beside it, and Vondelpark begins at the southern edge, which puts the park's quietest entrances closer to here than to any other neighborhood in this directory. Trams 1, 7 and 17 all run into the center in under fifteen minutes.
